Types of Surveys:
Management Survey
The Management Survey is carried out for the management of asbestos in buildings. The purpose of the survey is to locate, as far as reasonably practicable the presence and extent of any suspect asbestos containing materials which could be damaged or disturbed during normal occupancy, we also assess the condition. We compile a detailed report showing our findings, Material assessments and recommendations. Any intrusions that would be made areminor, sampling and labeling would also be discrete.
Management of Asbestos and Re-inspection Surveys
Having a management survey carried out is only the first stage of ensuring compliance with the Regulations. Once a survey has been carried out, the material identified must be re-inspected and records kept of those e-inspections. Also clear steps are required in terms of ‘duty of care’ and responsibilities including emergency situations arranging asbestos awareness training for those people who may come into contact with asbestos.
The aim of a Re-inspection survey is to reassess the surface treatment and condition of asbestos that has been previously found and already has a Management survey report and recommendations. The Re-inspection survey is part of a management plan which would be recommended in the Management survey. Depending on the location and condition of the asbestos containing material, will determine how frequently the Re-inspection Survey’s need to take place. Typically once every 6 to 12 months.

Refurbishment & Demolition Survey
This type of survey is used to locate and describe, as far as reasonably practicable, all asbestos containing materials in the area where the refurbishment work will take place (Project Specific Refurbishment & Demolition Survey) or in the whole building if demolition is planned. The survey will be fully intrusive and involve destructive inspection, as necessary, to gain access to all areas, including those that may be difficult to reach.
SL can carry out all types of survey and our surveyors are fully trained to current Government and HSE recommendations and hold at least the British Institute of Occupational Hygiene’s P402 certificate. All our surveys, sampling and reports are carried out to these same standards (as detailed in HSG264).
Bulk Samples
Bulk samples are where you require analysis of a specific material that may be of concern to you. We can provide you with a certificate of analysis which will detail a positive or negative result and what has been found. We can collect the sample ourselves or you can deliver it to us.
We can provide testing for the major contaminants that could potentially be present in building materials, air, water and soil. For example – Asbestos, Lead, Heavy Metals, Legionella, Anthrax and Other Bio-Hazards. Please ask for more information.
